Where:- RE/MAX Properties - 110 W 38th, Suite 100
EAA Chapter 42 December Educational Series- "Trans-Oceanic Flight" by Bill Compton.

EAA Chapter 42 member Bill Compton has flown a Beech Bonanza between Alaska and Hawaii 7 times; 5 times solo! He has also flown a Bonanza from Australia to Alaska! Bill has agreed to do a presentation to our chapter on Dec 9th at 7 PM in the RE/MAX Properties conference room. Planning, preparation and fuel management are just a few of the topics to be covered.

Whether you are looking for ideas for a trans-oceanic trip of your own or just want some ideas for an extended hunting or fishing trip in Alaska, this presentation should have valuable information for you. Furthermore, the stories of the trips themselves should be very interesting to pilots of all types. Mark your calendars and don't miss this one.
Tim
We are fortunate to have an annotated copy of the presentation that Bill gave to us as a PDF file, along with a couple other articles that Bill has published in the American Bonanza Society Magazine.

Alan Jesmer, Sales Rep for Precision Airmotive Corporation will be making a presentation on RSA fuel injection systems for Lycoming engines and on their new non certified fuel injection system for Experimental aircraft equipped with Lycoming , Continental, Superior and other manufacturers.
MARYSVILLE , WASHINGTON – June 30, 2003 . Precision Airmotive Corporation releases a new non-certified fuel injection system for EXPERIMENTAL aircraft equipped with Lycoming, Continental, Superior, and other engine manufacturers. The proven technology of this fuel injection system meters fuel with greater accuracy to obtain more efficient engine operation.
This new non-certified fuel injection system known as the “Silver Hawk EX”, has been called to action to serve the experimental sector, responding to the need for more precise fuel metering. With the “Silver Hawk EX” installed, the benefits of precise fuel metering help maximize your overall engine performance.
Another added benefit is the competitive price. In most applications, you will find a new “Silver Hawk EX” fuel injection system is competitively priced to a new carbureted fuel system.
Sold as a kit, (new servo, new flow divider, and new nozzles), the “Silver Hawk EX” can be installed on various engines from high horsepower performance aircraft down to the docile Sunday flier. No matter what aircraft you install the “Silver Hawk EX” on, you’ll have the power to perform.
If you’re building your dream machine, doesn’t it deserve to have the best fuel injection system available?
Even though it’s labeled experimental, it’s still Precision.
Precision Airmotive is interested in experimental aviation, and really wants to talk to you. They are making a special trip to fly up to do this presentation.
Please join us.

Mike Ice - First Flight this summer
Mike Ice had his first flight of his RV-9 on Sunday August 10th. We got to see it at the picnic at Birchwood.
Sept 2008
Tuesday September 23rd - 7 PM - Chapter Meeting
Our September chapter meeting will be at Airframes Alaska at 20130 Birchwood Loop Spur, Chugiak on Birchwood Field.
Formerly Northern Piper Aviation Inc.. They purchased the Super Cub and Taylorcraft parts lines from Airframes Inc. and merged the parts manufacturing with Northern Piper and briefly changed the name to Northern Airframes LLC, and finally decided upon Airframes Alaska.
We'll get to see all the Super Cub stuff that these guys are up to. They even manufacture stuff like Super Cub frames!
Dick Roberts told us about what's going on out at Birchwood. They are building tail feathers, fuselages, wings, wing struts, landing gear and motor mounts. They have taken over the old North River Brake Booster. With Dakota Cub, once the FAA paperwork is done they plan on bulding new Super-18s in Birchwood. They've also got Taylorcraft parts. They have around 20 people working there, and many of them are welders.
Dick said that from raw steel they can build a Super Cub frame in around 100 hours. From ready to assemble parts, it can be done in around 40 hours! They've got lots of jigs to build up portions of the frame, then they put the assemblies together in the big jig. It's an impressive operation, and for the amound of metal working and welding that they do, the place is spotless.
They do sell all of this stuff, so if you are looking for a wing or a rudder, they've got them new. They are going to launch a retail, shopping cart style web site soon.

Sat July 12th - Sun 13th - Wrangell St Elias Backcountry Airstrip Work Party
Do you want back country air strips?
Come put your back where your mouth is, and help us do some maintenance work on some air strips in the Wrangells.
Hey gang,
We are still planning to go to the Wrangells for remote strip clean-up. Details are slow in coming but it looks like we can stage out of the work center at May Creek which is a very nice 2,700' strip of grass and gravel and 100' wide. All in all, it is a really nice strip & was well maintained when I was there a month or so ago. As you know, Will Tipton retired last year so we are dealing with new guys and this project is new to them as well. Hopefully we will have more details early next week. In talking to Matt, brush loppers are very handy if you have some, bring them along. Hats & headnets are often a good idea depending on the weather conditions. More on stuff to bring later.
Meanwhile, if you are thinking of going, please reply to me by e-mail so we can get an idea of how many folks are planning to participate. Please let me know if you are flying yourself or if you need a ride.
Still looking for responses on who is going. Looks like at least 8 so far.
Thanks Tim

Thu July 3rd - 6 PM - Chapter Picnic
For those planning to be in town, John Davis and Sue have once again volunteered their yard & home for an EAA picnic. The chapter will supply hamburgers and hot dogs and the fixings to go with them along with a limited amount of beverages.
Deserts and side dishes would be appreciated if you come and a folding chair or two is a good idea. We have an order in for fine Summer weather and as a precaution, I am bringing a 55 gallon drum of wind and rain remover.
John and Sue live on the corner of Caravelle Dr and Raspberry Road at 6827 Caravelle. Caravelle is about a mile west of the intersection of Jewel Lake Rd and Raspberry. Hope to see you there.

Valdez May Day Fly-In & Airshow - May 10-11, 2008 Sat - Sun
Last year Cub Crafters brought their "Carbon Cub". It's a 220 HP super Cub that weighs 250-300 pounds less than any other Cub. The three pictures here show a 19 foot takeoff! They were also able to do a short field landing of 53 feet!
Last year there was a good crowd. There were approximately 110 airplanes on the ramp. Come on out. Fly or drive, it's worth the trip. It's a good time. If you don't feel like competing in the short take off and landging contest, there are seminars, and a Poker Run.
The rules for the competition are published on our website at www.valdezalaska.org in the events folder.
We expect the top planes and pilots from the Northwest to be attending and competing at this years event and the demonstration of piloting and performance of bush planes will be unmatched anywhere in the United States.

Tuesday April 8th - 6 PM - Chapter Seminar
Our April educational seminar will take place at E-Terra, LLC. That is where Lars Gleitsmann works. The space is not real large and the simulators can probably only handle a few people at a time. We would like to know how many people will show up for planning purposes and we will start at 6 PM rather than 7 PM to give more folks a chance for hands on.
If you plan to attend, please e-mail me your RSVP & number of people or call me on my 24 hour voice mail at 257-0134 and leave the info.
Pass the word on to non internet members.
It will be a hands-on-show-and-tell about our advanced digital Alaskan terrain models for flight simulations. We can show a lot of areas in high detail that look very realistic, to train pilots how to fly through mountain passes in low visibility and the dangers of marginal VFR conditions in passes and approaches in mountainous terrain. The weather simulation and clouds can be changed too, so one can look at the passes in good weather first and then in bad weather. We for example have Juneau, Skagway, Haines, Eagle River, Hatcher Pass, Various Passes through the Alaska Range.

Iditarod Restart Golf Tournament
March 8, 2007
The Willow Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Golf Tournament, on the ice, on Willow Lake, on March 8th, 2007. It is called the Iditarod restart Golf Tournament because it is on the ice we clear for the restart and just six days after the teams leave.
We would like the prestige of having a fly-in team from your club fly in and play golf. There is a pancake feed fundraiser by the local Lions Club all morning. It cost $25 per player and four to a teea. We have golf clubs and balls for you. We want to take pictures of planes in the backdrop of our golf course. Please fly-in and have some golfing fun with us. It is not necessary to know much golfing to have a great time.
Call Jim Huston, 495-9000 if you have any questions. We can send you information and team entry forms. If you’re on wheels we can pick you up and take you back across the street to Willow Airport.
